It's tough out there...

Never be afraid to ask for help.

Many students feel unprepared for the often unspoken expectations of university, from academic writing styles to the amount of studying needed for final exams. It takes a long time to learn how to learn, and this is where an academic coach comes in.

What is academic coaching?

Many students put in a lot of effort and don't end up with the grades they expect. Most of the time, students aren't missing the smarts, they're missing the skills—things like good study habits, time management, and knowing what the heck to actually do with your $150 textbook.

Just like a gym coach, I'll help you build the skills to succeed while staying accountable to yourself. We'll plan for upcoming deadlines, break down big assignments, and work out a study routine together. My goal for you isn't just better grades this term, but the confidence you need to succeed throughout your degree.

What I offer

Doing well in a university class starts with understanding its expectations. I'll review your class syllabus, and together we'll make a plan of attack for the whole semester, setting goals and deadlines for each assignment. We'll figure out a study routine that works for you, and do progress checks to make sure you don't fall behind. Week to week, I'll provide support with class content, review drafts of your written assignments, and help you prepare for major tests and papers ahead of time.

I provide weekly one-on-one sessions at a time and place that works for you. You'll have 60 minutes with me, but you'll get 80+ minutes of my time, since outside of our session I will:

  • Review your papers and short assignments
  • Help you create a study plan
  • Find additional resources that benefit you

    About me

I'm a graduate student in biology at University of Winnipeg. I work with students who are capable, motivated, and frustrated by results that don’t match their effort.

I have over 6 years of experience tutoring and mentoring university and high school students. I've also taught courses and labs in biology, and previously managed a volunteer peer-tutoring program. My focus is on developing academic skills that last and helping students build confidence.
